 Orbital Welding

Find all the answers regarding orbital welding here! And discover our partner AXXAIR, a specialist in the field.

Orbital welding is widely used in the pharmaceutical, food processing, and chemical industries (such as detergent manufacturing). It ensures optimal welding quality and meets the highest standards (radiographic inspection), weld after weld.

When to use orbital welding?

The application primarily concerns stainless steel piping with diameters ranging from 10 to 250mm and thicknesses from 1.2 to 6mm. The necessary equipment includes a welding generator (200A or 300A) cooled by air or water, which is fitted with a welding head (open or closed head). The choice of head model depends on the pipe diameter to be welded, the available space (especially for work and installations at the client's site), and the configuration (pipe/pipe/pipe/elbow/...).

Experience with orbital welding

Orbital welding work requires meticulous preparation (80% of the final result).

  • Step 1: Perpendicular cutting.

  • Step 2: Cleaning the tube edges with acetone and abrasive pads.

  • Step 3: Edge-to-edge fitting and manual tacking.

  • Step 4: Adjusting the orbital head - (training provided by us) - having an operator with welding knowledge is an advantage.

Necessary equipment for orbital welding

Our partner for many years is the French manufacturer AXXAIR. The AXXAIR range of solutions provides cutting, beveling, and orbital welding. The machines are designed to be simple and highly reliable. Operators can easily handle them, and only a few hours of training are needed to achieve excellent results in both cutting/beveling and welding.
